Old French Garnishment GAR-nish-ment Garnishment is a legal procedure that allows a creditor to collect a debt from a debtor's wages or other assets held by a third party, such as a bank. The court ordered a wage garnishment to collect unpaid child support from the defendant's paycheck. In Doe v. Lender (2020), the court limited the amount of wages that could be garnished from the debtor's paycheck to protect their ability to support themselves and their family. ← Back to BrowseNext Term →
